Refining the Singapore Pre-school Accreditation Framework

The Singapore Pre-school Accreditation Framework or SPARK, was introduced in Jan 2011 aimed at raising the standards of pre-schools in Singapore.  SPARK aims to provide recognition and support for pre-school leaders in their efforts to improve teaching and learning, administration and management processes to enhance the holistic development and well-being of young children. It serves as a guide for pre-schools to understand what they should be striving to achieve and provides a benchmark for pre-schools to measure themselves against, and establish for themselves the extent of their achievement.

After 3 years of implementation, SPARK is being fine-tuned with the further aim to help parents distinguish the best pre-schools.  Senior Minister of State for Ministry of Education and Law Indranee Rajah announced at an early childhood conference that from 2015, the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) which administers SPARK will award Commendations to pre-schools with the best teaching and learning practices.   This award will give parents an additional angle in identifying quality pre-schools.  A total of 360 pre-schools are expected to be accredited.
