Parents rejoice! YouTube is releasing an app for kids today!


Hey parents! Here’s some great news to start the week.

We all know how much kids love watching videos on YouTube. While it’s a very useful resource for kids to learn about new things, there’s also the danger of them stumbling upon kid-UNfriendly content. Today, YouTube will be releasing a kid-friendly app called YouTube Kids. It will only be available for free on Android when it launches but a Google spokesperson confirmed that it will be made available to other platforms later on (Phew!).

Some of the apps interesting features include a timer that is controllable by parents to shut down the app after a certain amount of time (YAY!). Comments have also been disabled to prevent kids from seeing profanity.

In terms of content, it will be curated carefully and will be provided by shows such as Sesame Street, Thomas The Tank Engine, National Geographic Kids, and Dreamworks TV.
